A.6.1.2
Objectives for responsible development of AI system
Identify and document objectives that guide responsible development of AI systems, take them into account and build measures to achieve them into the development life cycle. The artefact behind the answer is documented responsible development objectives (for example fairness). For objectives for responsible development of ai system the evidence sits at the gate it belongs to.
- What it asks
- Identify and document objectives that guide responsible development of AI systems, take them into account and build measures to achieve them into the development life cycle.
- Where generative AI changes the answer
- The objectives have to be specific enough to test on a generative system, such as whether a fabricated citation rate is acceptable in a regulated document.
- Who it binds
- The AI system owner and the delivery team at each life cycle gate. For A.6.1.2 the named role is the owner of documented responsible development objectives (for example fairness).
- Evidence an auditor normally samples
- Documented responsible development objectives (for example fairness)
- Evidence the objectives are reflected in requirements, data acquisition and conditioning, training and verification
- Mandated methods or tools that implement them
- The test you can run
- Ask for documented responsible development objectives (for example fairness) and for its last review date; an artefact nobody can date is paperwork rather than a control.
- Common failures
- Objectives stated but absent from development requirements
- No measure linked to each objective
- Before the draft publishes
- For A.6.1.2, walk the use through the life cycle gates and record which gate has no evidence behind it. That gap is what an auditor will ask about first. The first artefact to produce is documented responsible development objectives (for example fairness).
- Where this sits against the draft
- The draft's published scope names controls for the risks it identifies, and A.6.1.2 (objectives for responsible development of ai system) is the published ISO/IEC 42001 control closest to that work. The draft does not replace it, and an audit still tests it against the evidence listed here.
